January 2012 Fitness Success Story

Heather wanted to be able to do some kayaking while she was on vacation, so she worked with New Wave Fitness to build her upper-body strength, as well as tighten and tone her body, maintaining her curves! See what Heather had to say about her experience, and read her interview transcript below…

Heather:
I’m Heather Joy Hampton, and I’m from Irving, Texas. I’m in my early 30s and I noticed my body was starting to change. I was starting to not have the curves I did when I was 20, and I realized that if I want to continue to look good, I’m going to have to start working at it. Also, I wasn’t able to do a lot of athletic activities like kayaking, for  example. I was going on vacation and I really wanted to build up enough upper-body strength to be able to do those types of things.

New Wave Fitness:
What did you do before?

Heather:
I definitely didn’t do a very good job of dieting as far as what I was eating. When I would go to the gym, I didn’t really know what to do, so I would end up spending a lot of time not getting a lot done. I was just kind of all over the place. I wasn’t able to lose weight on my own.

I worked out with personal trainers and gyms like 24-hour Fitness in the past and I didn’t have a very good experience. They didn’t seem like they had a lot of knowledge about personal training. It seemed like they were just working on a cut-and-dried routine and they didn’t have a lot of flexibility.

I’m definitely more comfortable when I go to the gym. Before, when I would work out, I didn’t really know what I was doing, so I’d go to the gym, work out for 2 hours, and not really get that much accomplished. I’m stronger and more toned. I’m able to do athletic activities I couldn’t do before, like kayaking when I’m on vacation.

I definitely enjoy working out more than I did before. I have a better understanding of what to do when I go to the gym and I’m not with a personal trainer. I’m more conscious about what I eat, how much I eat. I have a better understanding of how protein helps build muscle and how carbohydrates give you energy and all that good stuff.

The human body is the greatest machine any of us will ever own so it’s really important to start taking care of yourself. Investing a little bit of money and a little bit of time, the results will definitely pay off.
