Imagine walking in to your favorite coffee house and ordering a tasty, guilt-free beverage that has more than one ingredient (coffee)!
A cup of black coffee or plain tea, besides the caffeine and a little naturally occurring sodium, is free of guilt, calories, fat, sugar, gluten, or carbs.
But then you have to doctor it up with cream, sugar, flavor syrup (containing even more sugar), mocha-choca-lotta-grande-frappe, and whipped cream on top.
For example, a Venti Matcha Green Tea Creme Frappuccino sounds healthy…green tea is good for you, right? Sure, green tea that’s ONLY green tea in the cup is healthy!
Make it a Frappuccino and here’s what you’re drinking:
- 91 grams of carbs (that’s like two meals’ worth of carbs in one drink!)
- 550 calories (a full meals’ worth of calories!)
- 11 grams of saturated fat (over half of the recommended daily allowance!)
Sugar, calories & fat galore…and do you wonder why you’re tired, gaining weight, or don’t feel well?
If you want the fancy Starbucks logo on your drink, buy one of their reusable cups and then make this recipe at home to put in it:
Maple & Sweet Cream Cafe au Lait
- 0 grams of carbs
- 0 calories
- 0 grams of saturated fat
- 0 sugar
Ingredients (1 serving):
1 Cup hot espresso or strong coffee
1 pinch cinnamon
Combine liquid ingredients and whisk until frothy. Sprinkle cinnamon on top and enjoy…without feeling guilty!
