Kyle has reached his goals of gaining weight & getting stronger for water polo, and his swimming race times have been improving consistently! So working with a personal trainer isn’t just for weight loss–it’s also beneficial for improving fitness levels and gaining muscle and strength.

Please enjoy Kyle’s video interview below. I used to be really, really skinny. I’ve noticed more strength in my swimming and water polo.

New Wave Fitness:
You’ve been with us for two years, is that correct?

Kyle:
Yes. I’ve gained 25 pounds in the last two years. I’ve improved on almost all my swimming times and have gotten a lot stronger and better at water polo. I thought that when I did strength training, it was all about doing the max weight you can, but Erick, my trainer, has taught me more that you don’t have to do the max weight. You just have to do a lesser weight but with more reps.

I’ve been eating a lot more, and [Erick] told me how many calories I should be eating a day with my workout, and what kinds of food and what kinds of vegetables, and everything that I need to eat. I was eating a lot more junk food before we started, and he told me to supplement with other healthier foods that have about the same amount of calories.

In my longer races, I’ve [shaved off] up to 30 seconds (500 Freestyle). In the shorter races, it’s improved anywhere from one to five seconds, which is a big difference in swimming. Before we started training, I had one or two sectional times. Now I have 7 or 8 sectional times, which is moving up to a higher ranking in swimming.

New Wave Fitness:
In working with us, what do you want to accomplish now? You’ve achieved those goals, but now are you looking for better times? Are you looking to get stronger or bigger?

Kyle:
I’m looking mostly for better times, but also to get stronger and bigger and just keep me in better and better shape for my sports.

New Wave Fitness:
What would you say, Kyle, to someone who’s like your age, is kind of on the fence, doesn’t really know whether to get a trainer or not—what would you tell that person?

Kyle:
I think it really helped me and I would definitely do it. It just helped me all around. I’ve been a better, stronger person and it really helped my fitness in my sports. It’s definitely improved my self-confidence because I can just walk around knowing that I’m a little bit bigger and stronger.

Our May 2012 client of the month is Kyle from Southlake!
