You&#8217;ve got to see this story&#8230;amazing. Mike was actually scheduled for gastric bypass surgery before they started with their personal trainer. Wouldn\u2019t go to concerts, didn\u2019t want to sit in the chairs. Didn\u2019t go to football games. Anything with stadium-type seating, I didn\u2019t want to go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nWouldn\u2019t fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nDidn\u2019t like flying because you have to ask for the extension and that kind of gets a little embarrassing, it really does. Just basically couldn\u2019t bend over and pick things up and really going in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nOr you\u2019d have to crawl across the floor to pull yourself up because you couldn\u2019t get up on your own. But my personal journey began taking care of mothers. I would have to lift their wheelchairs, lift them and lift walkers, and they were pretty weak. I had to do everything for them. So I started just to get strong so I could lift. I think that\u2019s where we began our journey, seeing our mothers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nExactly. My mom and her mom both are in their 80s and they couldn\u2019t hardly get around, and we did not want that. We do not want that when we\u2019re hopefully in our 80s. We want to be able to take care of ourselves, and if we don\u2019t start now, we would have been in the same situation that they\u2019re in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Wave Fitness:<\/strong><br \/>\nSeeing the future, and that\u2019s not the future you want.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike &amp; Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nExactly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nAlways doing the fad diets. You did the NutriSystem\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nI did NutriSystem, L.A. Weight Loss, and then there was another one that has gone out of business that I don\u2019t even remember, but it did no good.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Wave Fitness:<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat would you give as the reason why it didn\u2019t work?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nDiscipline\u2014wasn\u2019t held accountable. Accountability is everything. Again, that\u2019s where y\u2019all come in. Brandon comes in and there\u2019s not a day he doesn\u2019t come in and ask us, \u201cHey, how did you do? How did you do on your meal plan?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nOr, \u201cShow it to me in black &amp; white.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nYeah, exactly!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cForget telling me; show me in black &amp; white.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Wave Fitness:<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat has changed as far as your eating habits now compared to what they were then?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nAbout 5,000-6,000 calories down to less than 2,000. It\u2019s a big difference. I have more energy because I\u2019m eating the right things. I\u2019m getting the proteins instead of the fajitas and margaritas! I\u2019m eating the right balance of food, and just feel a lot better\u2014way more energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nHe was actually scheduled for [gastric] bypass when we started.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nYeah, I was scheduled for bypass surgery. I was at that point of trying the bypass surgery. Then we went and bought one of these machines back here, and they said that they would send a trainer out to show us how to use it and that happened to be Hut. He told me about yawl\u2019s program and man, we jumped\u2014we signed right up, right then. I canceled the bypass.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn:<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd did much better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike:<\/strong><br \/>\nYeah, exactly, doing it on my own now. I\u2019ve cut back\u2014the only medication I was on was blood-pressure medicine, and I\u2019m still on it but they cut the dosage way back, like in half. Once I reach my final goal, I really don\u2019t expect to be on any kind of maintenance-type medicine. I\u2019ve lost a total of about 70 pounds so far.
