I&#8217;m in my early 30s and I noticed my body was starting to change. I was starting to not have the curves I did when I was 20, and I realized that if I want to continue to look good, I&#8217;m going to have to start working at it. Also, I wasn&#8217;t able to do a lot of athletic activities like kayaking, for\u00a0 example. I was going on vacation and I really wanted to build up enough upper-body strength to be able to do those types of things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Wave Fitness:<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat did you do before?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heather:<\/strong><br \/>\nI definitely didn&#8217;t do a very good job of dieting as far as what I was eating. When I would go to the gym, I didn&#8217;t really know what to do, so I would end up spending a lot of time not getting a lot done. I was just kind of all over the place. I wasn&#8217;t able to lose weight on my own.<\/p>\n<p>I worked out with personal trainers and gyms like 24-hour Fitness in the past and I didn&#8217;t have a very good experience. They didn&#8217;t seem like they had a lot of knowledge about personal training. It seemed like they were just working on a cut-and-dried routine and they didn&#8217;t have a lot of flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m definitely more comfortable when I go to the gym. Before, when I would work out, I didn&#8217;t really know what I was doing, so I&#8217;d go to the gym, work out for 2 hours, and not really get that much accomplished. I&#8217;m stronger and more toned. I&#8217;m able to do athletic activities I couldn&#8217;t do before, like kayaking when I&#8217;m on vacation.<\/p>\n<p>I definitely enjoy working out more than I did before. I have a better understanding of what to do when I go to the gym and I&#8217;m not with a personal trainer. I&#8217;m more conscious about what I eat, how much I eat. I have a better understanding of how protein helps build muscle and how carbohydrates give you energy and all that good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>The human body is the greatest machine any of us will ever own so it&#8217;s really important to start taking care of yourself.
