I didn’t really work out that much. I’ve never done a formal fitness program, had never really even been into a gym. I play basketball occasionally in the spring when the weather is nice.

I’d start to play basketball and be really out of shape and a month later, it would get hot and I would just stop playing and really wouldn’t do much for the rest of the year. I didn’t like being tired, trying to play for 5 minutes and being exhausted. I didn’t feel like I was in great shape.

I just didn’t have a lot of endurance. I would get tired walking up stairs and I was like, “This is kind of ridiculous; I shouldn’t have to do this.” I really just didn’t know going in–I had never done a formal fitness program or anything like that, so I didn’t know what it would be like or what the exercises would be like.

I didn’t know what kind of results I would get out of it, but figured, hey, I’ll give it a try and see what happens.

I felt like I was gaining a lot more muscle mass. My measurements went down. I was losing the fat and gaining a lot of muscle. Endurance seemed a lot better. We did a one-mile test at the beginning and then did one six weeks later. I think I shaved off like 2 minutes from my mile and didn’t feel like I was going to die, so that was exciting to see that.

Strength–big improvement. I remember going in to the class, we’d do front planks and I could do about 20 seconds. Then after going through the class and training with John, yesterday I did three sets of planks for a minute and a half each, back to back. So going from 20 seconds to 3 sets of 1.5 minutes, it’s a big improvement.

That was a neat thing, seeing the progression of the things I couldn’t do or were really hard and then it becomes easy to do. That was kind of cool.

It feels good to be able to do that stuff, not get tired, and not just feel exhausted. It’s neat to see yourself improve.

I feel like I have more energy. I don’t get tired all the time. I get up early and don’t feel tired. Just overall, I feel a lot healthier.

I work out at lunch and then in the afternoons I don’t get tired. I seem to have a lot of energy throughout the day.

Hut: Does that help with work?

Jon: Yes, I would say so. I get more done and don’t feel exhausted. You’ve just got to dive in there and give it a try. I had never really done any kind of formal classes or training and didn’t know the exercises, but you’ve just got to get in there.

John, the trainer, was really good at teaching the exercises and how to do them properly. The biggest thing is just to dive in there and give it a try. You start to learn the stuff, you start to see the progression, and want to do more.

Jon: My name is Jon Running; I’m from Plano, Texas.
