February 2014 Fitness Success Story

Megan: I’m Megan Way from Dallas, Texas. I struggled with my weight for a very long time, almost all of my adult life. I tried all sorts of different diets and just hadn’t found anything that worked. I had tried the Atkins diet, South Beach, low carb, high carb, no fat…everything!

I didn’t really get into some of the more strange ones, like cabbage diets, or anything, but a lot of yo-yo dieting. I hadn’t found anything that I could stick with that worked for me long term.

Being an anesthesiologist and working with bariatric surgeons, I pretty much had convinced myself that that was the only choice for me. I had tried everything.

I would try working out but it was so hard to maintain and to incorporate into my life. I had resigned myself that I was going to end up having to have surgery in order to get where I wanted to go.

My sister helped me. She said, “You know, you’re going to spend 10 grand on this surgery and you’re going to end up doing a lot of the same stuff. Just try hiring a trainer.” So when I googled and saw you guys, it’s like, All right, we’ll try it, but I was really skeptical. When you came out, you said the exact same thing!

I said, “I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to have surgery.” You were like, “Megan…just give us a try. You’re going to have to do all the same stuff,” and that makes sense to me now because the people who I have seen that have had the surgery—they still have to work out, they still have to eat really well, and they just paid an extra $10,000 to force them into it. You guys were able to fulfill that role for me.

I had to start off really slow. I mean, I was really very heavy and very out of shape. You found the perfect trainer for me and he tailored it exactly to where I was, and we started off really slow and just worked our way up. I felt like I was in good hands, like I was with someone who really knew what they were doing.

Probably after the first phase is really when it kicked into high gear and I really started seeing the results. People were noticing, I’m feeling better, and of course then it just snowballs and that’s when it really starts taking off.

Megan_BAHut: How much weight have you lost?

Megan: 86 pounds.

Hut: Uh… Great!! So you’ve lost 86 pounds?

Megan: Yes. It’s like a 9-year-old.

Hut: Great. That’s amazing, and you did that in a little over what, 6 months?

Megan: It’s been about 9 months actually. So 9 months total, and like I said, it’s been very steady, very gradual. I have lost 47 inches. The big thing for me was dress size. I went from size 28 to I’m now a size 14, and I’m still losing. I can’t keep up with my clothes because I’m continuing to lose.

I do have a fairly demanding job. I noticed before with my health that it was interfering with my ability to work and to take care of patients. Now I have tons more energy. I have strength, I have upper-body strength, which I’m not sure that I’ve had in a really long time.

I can do stuff. I can run down the hill to the lake and come right back up and not be about to die. I can chase my 2-year-old. I have energy and I can definitely feel a difference in my muscle and tone.

There’s never a perfect time to do it, so just do it. I kept saying, “Oh, next week, next month, I’ll have more time…” It never happens, so this was the best decision I ever made. It’s fabulous. I don’t know how else to describe it, but I have energy to go out.

I’m able to do things, I’m meeting more people. I’m having more fun with my kids. They notice a difference, not just in that I can do more things, but in my energy and my happiness.

Hut: We coached you through our system, our program, and now you’re on your own.

Megan: Still have it.

Hut: Awesome. Now you’re on your own; do you feel like we have coached you and educated you on systems, tools and habits that will be here for the rest of your life, into the future?

Megan: Yes, and I think especially for women, we don’t necessarily know (I didn’t know) how important the strength training was, and really how to do that. I’m sitting here thinking, “I don’t want to do push-ups. I just want to lose weight.”

And really seeing the results of that and seeing how to go about it systematically, I think was key. To see how increasing the muscle mass really is going to help the overall fitness and how I feel and my ability to lose weight.

Having someone not just say, “Here is your program,” but then take you through it and show you this is why we’re doing the intervals and this is how we’re going to mix it up and having that explained, now I feel like I get it. I can think about it, I can tailor my program a little bit, but I still have that foundation.

Hut: Great. We really value your story. Honestly. So many people are going to get inspired and you’re going to change somebody else’s life because of what you’ve committed to do. Megan_A

All we ask people to do is get your vision, get your goal, make sure you have the right action plan that’s complete, and then stay accountable to it until it becomes habitual.

You’ve done that and we greatly appreciate that, and we look forward to continued success, and we will be out here again whenever you’re to the ultimate goal. And we’ll always be here whenever you’re ready, when you need us.

Megan: That’s the key too. I feel like I’ve got the tools but I also still have it in the back of my mind that you guys are here if I need you again, so…

Hut: Love it. Awesome.

Megan: Thank you!
