April 2012 Fitness Success Story

Every month we choose a client who has done something exceptional and reward him or her with a special gift. This month is very exciting because we are celebrating our 50th client of the month (since we began counting, that is!) That means it’s been just over 4 years where we’ve had an official winner every month. Congratulations to all 50 clients of the month!

For April, our special, 50th client of the month is Kaylin, who lives in Irving, TX! She has lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks; lost 6 inches from her waist and has lost 5% body fat! Kaylin is even training with fellow boot campers for a triathlon in June! Kaylin: My name is Kaylin and I’m in Irving. I was having health problems and my doctor advised me to lose a good 20 pounds, so I know I needed to do something about it. It’s hard to do things on your own—need a little extra motivation and found the boot camp on the website and thought it sounded perfect for me. That way there’s a bunch of other ladies that are going to help hold you accountable for your actions.

I’ve lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks. I’ve lost 6 inches around my waist, and I’ve lost 5% body fat. My husband has been noticing my body shaping a lot nicer than it was before, and all the girls in boot camp are all noticing. It’s just nice, everybody’s changing together and we can all notice it together, just the small things day to day.

Nutrition has definitely gotten better. You realize, “Hey, if I eat this chocolate bar today, Jason is going to kick my butt tomorrow and make me work even harder.” It comes to the point where it’s almost not worth it, like, Why are you going to do that whenever you know how many calories it is and you know how long it’s going to take to burn it off?

I used to be very slender. I was an athlete for 11 years. To get that way, I had personal training every single day of the week, probably twice a day in most cases. Once I met my husband, that’s when things kind of fell apart! We ate badly together and everything, and that’s how I got this far. I haven’t really tried much since then. I was just enjoying being a newlywed.

Boot camp seemed more economical and it also seemed a lot more fun since you had other girls with you that would kick your butt along the way if you tried to do anything like skip camp or anything. They’ll be calling me, texting me. I just got a text this morning actually, because I skipped swimming this morning with one of the girls—“Where are you? What are you doing? Get out of bed!” So it’s just nice to be accountable with all the ladies.

New Wave Fitness: Good. You’re also training for a triathlon too right now, aren’t you?

Kaylin: Yes, there’s a few girls in the boot camp and we’re all doing the triathlon together. We’re very excited. It’s in June. Hopefully we’ll be ready for it by then.

I would definitely say do it. It’s economical instead of personal training. You’re only paying around $10 a session, which is awesome. You meet so many new friends and everybody holds you accountable for what you’re doing. We all motivate each other and kick each other’s butt about the diet and everything, so it’s definitely been worth doing it, and I’m going to continue doing it past the swimsuit season.
